We Welcome New Patients: Let Your Healthiest Smile Begin With Us!

Are you looking for a dental office taking new patients near Longmont, Colorado? We welcome you to Longmont Dental! If it’s been a while since your last dental visit or it’s the first time you want to see one, Dr. Kurt Knechtel, Dr. Wyatt Knechtel, and the entire team are here to help you achieve the healthy, beautiful smile you deserve. We treat all our patients like family, so expect nothing short of compassionate and gentle care at our office.

What should I expect during my first appointment?

Your first appointment provides a good opportunity to know more about your medical history, current medications, dental concerns, and goals.

Here is what to expect:

  • Comprehensive oral exam: All new patients in our office must undergo a dental exam to create a detailed record of their oral health. Nervous about your first dental exam? It’s natural, but you have nothing to worry about a dental exam—it’s quick and comfortable. The dentist examines your teeth and gums for signs of cavities, wear, gum disease, and other issues.
  • Oral cancer screening: A simple check-up that helps uncover lesions, patches, swellings, and other abnormalities linked to mouth cancer. The exam takes about five minutes, but it can potentially save a life.
  • Dental X-rays: We take dental X-rays to help uncover hidden issues such as impacted wisdom teeth, subgingival cavities, cysts, and other concerns not visible to the naked eye.
  • Dental cleaning: After your exam, we will determine the type of cleaning required. We’ll recommend a regular dental cleaning if you don’t have gum disease. During this cleaning, the dental hygienist uses special tools and skills to remove built-up plaque and tartar from areas your toothbrush cannot reach. If you have gum disease, the dentist will recommend deep teeth cleaning, which removes unhealthy deposits from the deep pockets around your teeth.

After your exam, we’ll discuss your findings, goals, and treatment options. Whether you need a simple treatment or a multi-procedure treatment, we’ll create a plan that meets your needs, budget, and timeline.

What should I bring during my first dental visit?

Not much. To make your visit as smooth as possible, bring your ID and insurance card, if applicable. If you have recent radiographs, you can bring them. However, don’t worry if you don’t have them — we’ll have them taken at our office. It’s also essential to have a list of current medications or medical conditions and questions or concerns you’d like to discuss with Dr. Knechtel.
